22 BEST QUOTES FROM ONE OF US IS LYING BY KAREN M. MCMANUS
Here are the 22 best quotes I found in the book One of Us is Lying. It's a good book. I read it 3 months ago. The book is about four people who are suspects in the death of a fellow student. But you are here for the Quotes not the story so I won't bore you with the story(I will give a gist at the end though, basically I complain about the characters). The quotes are not just good and mind-blowing, amazing things(more words like that) the people said in the book, there are also lines which I found funny and amusing. You should know that finding lines that have enough context to qualify as funny is hard. So sometimes I have to turn the lines into paragraphs like I had to do in Turtles All The Way Down. But trust me that one was so worth it cause I love that book. So here they are -
Justin is twelve years younger than my mother, which makes him five years younger than her second husband, and fifteen years younger than my dad. At the rate she’s going, she’ll date Jake next.
Because he refuses to see anything but the best in me. If that ever changed, I honestly don’t know what I’d do.
She was always trying to join things, or start things for other people to join. Then be in charge of all the things she joined or started.
Her house is about what you’d expect—a huge Victorian with a big lawn and
lots of complicated trees and flowers.
He’s twelve, and Simon’s death is nothing but video-game gore to him.
Yard work is a waste of time that never ends.
None of them have as much experience as I do keeping a straight face when
shit’s falling apart around them. At least, none of them are as good at it as me.
Nobody could stand him, but they’re all holding candles like he’s some kind of martyr instead of a gossipy douchebag.”
Big jump in a short time.
It’s easier to pretend he’s a fit guardian when he’s not passed out in the living room.
Tell me something positive that happened.” She always says that, as if life is full of great shit I can store up and report every Sunday.
We could be surrounded by walking dead in the zombie apocalypse and she’d look for the bright side.
I don’t need a brochure to tell me how bad it sucks when your only parent’s a drunk, and I definitely don’t need to talk about it with a bunch of whiners in a church basement somewhere.
I want to ask why, but she’s so calm and assured, like it’s the most natural thing in the world to pull me aside after a funeral.
Try to picture it—me, Nate, and the two girls plotting murder by peanut oil in Mr. Avery’s detention. It’s so stupid it wouldn’t even make a good movie.
You’re not who we thought you were.
One hard class shouldn’t ruin my whole future. Which is kind of horribly
ironic, given what just happened at the police station.
I answered a few of their questions. The ones I knew couldn’t get me into
trouble. Everything else was some variation of I don’t know and I don’t
remember. Sometimes it was even true.
I try to unfreeze so I can hug her back instead of standing there like a block of wood, but she’s already gone, hurrying after her sister.
She has that expensive lawyer, along with parents who are like guard dogs between her and people trying to mess with her.
I know what it’s like to tell yourself a lie so often that it becomes the truth
I don’t have the words to tell Bronwyn what it’s like to have lunch with a ghost.
Now, about the book. I liked Nate. But I don't think I would talk to someone like Nate unless I know them. Cause you know why(I'm not telling you why. You'll have to read the book to know). Minus what he does for money I like him. He is not a bad guy. But I do hate two people. Simon and Jake. Simon is kinda ok I don't like him but Jake, Jake is a psycho. I am telling you Jake is a very good example of what a boyfriend should not be. He is crazy! How can he be soo evil? How can anyone be so crazy? And really what was he thinking? And I didn't like him from the start. He turned into a maniac by the end. Other than hating Jake, there are also other things you can like about this book. I really like that we could see the point of view of four people. But I did notice something that could be different. Like, all four characters talk in points sometimes. I don't think all four of them had to do so. Only one was enough. I also liked Bronwyn and Nate together. They are cute. I am so happy Addy is not with Jake. She really surprised me in the end. And lastly Janae, she is the saddest character I have ever seen in a book. And someone give her some food. Here is a meme for you my readers
I hope you have a day better than yesterday!
Thats all for now. Ciao;)
